Hello. My name is Vint Cerf.
I'm google's chief internet evangelist and I wish I could join you KRNET2012.
But unfortunately my calendar is not cooperating and so you'll have to put up with Virtual Vint first of all
I want to acknowledge that you're celebrating two very very big anniversaries
the first is the thirtieth anniversary of the internet in korea
and I think you have with you Kilnam Chon whom I would like to acknowledge
as one of the primary proponents of introducing internet into the academic community in korea
so many years ago and of course you are also celebrating the twentieth anniversary of KRNET itself
so these are two very very significant moments in your history.
The internet itself is going to celebrate its thirtieth anniversary of operation at the beginning of january 2013
when it will have been functioning since january first 1983 so that's a big milestone there
and of course some of you all know that the internet society itself
which was founded in january of 1992 will be celebrating
its twentieth anniversary this year along with the anniversaries that you're celebrating as well.
I wanted to take just a moment to say little bit about internet as
it has emerged in korea you are in many ways the envy of the world as Seoul
has some of the most advanced technology available
it is a able to deliver some of the highest speed services both wireless and optically or wired
if you like so you have really made enormous progress and
I'm sure that KRNET2012 is going to be filled with some very very interesting reports and research and results
and possible new technologies as well as products and services that are beginning to emerge.
So I am really very regretful that I can't be there with you
but I hope that you will make a good record of all that you discuss
and that you will by this time also be able to report the very successful launch of the Internet version six protocol.
Many of you know that on june sixth 2012 it is intended that all those who are serving internet both as ISPs
and as application service providers will be turning on IPv6 and leaving it on as of june sixth this year.
So in many ways I think IPv6 is launched in two thousand twelve as well again another major milestone.
So I wish you a very successful conference I hope that you'll find at the same useful and
important and valuable exercise to share your ideas and your progress
and I look forward to an opportunity to see you ON THE NET!
